Lab

Write down a problem, measure it, try a change, and watch it.

Knowledge → Lab — the assistant can answer anything, but if you don't know what to ask, it can't give you much. Lab does the opposite: it gives everyone the same process to follow.

Write down the problem → guess why → try a change (experiment card) → watch it

1. Write down the problem

Start by typing the problem you're looking at into the box at the top, in your own words. It looks for a number in what you wrote that can be tracked over time — if it can't find one, it shows you a list to choose from.

Example: I don't understand why shipping costs keep swinging around

Below that, Comitia shows recommendations — things in the ledger numbers that look different from usual. These are optional; if nothing stands out, nothing shows up.

⚠️ An experiment needs a number it can track over time. If the ledgers/tables don't have one yet, you can't create an experiment.

2. Why might that be?

Once you pick a problem, you'll see a few guesses at the cause. If none of them fit, click "Guess again" or write your own below.

⚠️ A guess is just a guess. You only find out by actually making the change — if you don't change anything, you never will.

3. Create an experiment card

FieldWhat to writeExample
What to tryWhat you're going to changeStarting in September, consolidate that vendor's orders into one order per week
Metric to watchWhich number to trackShipping cost
Comparison windowWhat period to compare againstThe 3 months before the change

No target value or deadline needed. Once you've filled it in, click "Record this."

4. Watch it

A recorded experiment stays under watch, and gets remeasured with the same yardstick every time new data is organized. You can see how the number moved after the change, right on the card.

  • Note what you actually did under "After the change" (e.g. Consolidated routes starting September 1)
  • When you're done, close it out — the record stays. Deleting it doesn't touch the organized documents or ledgers, they stay as they are

📌 Lab only handles problems you can measure with a number. If a problem can't be remeasured, it's not a fit for an experiment — ask the assistant instead.
